W&J Football Dominates in 55-0 Shutout Win over Geneva

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College football team (3-1 , 2-0) put together a dominant 60-minute effort to secure a 55-0 shutout victory over the Geneva Golden Tornadoes (2-2 , 1-1).

Coming off the program's 800th victory, the Presidents compiled 648 total offensive yards (293 passing and 355 rushing), the most in a single game since the 2015 season. Powering the offense was freshman quarterback Braylon Wagner (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank Valley) and Andrew Sharp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin). Wagner got his first start at quarterback for the Presidents, the first freshman to start at the position since 2013 when Pete Coughlin '17 got a start in his first season in Red & Black. Wagner passed for 218 yards, going 16-for-24, with four passing touchdowns. He also finished with 37 yards on the ground. Sharp headed the W&J backfield with 143 yards rushing and two rushing touchdowns. The junior back also caught two passes for 10 yards and a touchdown. Joey DeSabato (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area) led the receiving room with nine catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns.

Brock Sherman (Copley, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) led the team in tackles on the afternoon with six while contributing a sack and two tackles for loss. Alex Boyce (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) remained disruptive at the line of scrimmage, leading the team in sacks with 1.5. A. Boyce also had 2.0 tackles for loss and five total tackles. Da'Jahn Telfair (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) picked off his first pass of the 2026 season and picked up 17 yards on the return. Will Domico (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) forced a fumble late in the contest which was recovered by Paul Williamson (Houston, Pa./Chartiers Houston).

W&J opened the first quarter with two touchdowns to set the tone early. AJ Alston (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) hauled in the first score of the day for the Presidents on a 21-yard back shoulder reception in the corner of the endzone, 7-0. With just over four minutes remaining in the opening quarter, Sharp scampered his way to a 47-yard rushing touchdown, 14-0.

The Presidents pressed on in the second quarter, opening the period with a 14-yard rushing touchdown by Sharp after hurdling a defender, 21-0. On back-to-back drives, Wagner found DeSabato for touchdowns on receptions of 28 and 19 yards, 35-0. The W&J defense held the Golden Tornadoes to one first down in the first half with three total yards of offense.

Following an opening drive interception from Telfair, Wagner connected with Sharp on an 11-yard receiving touchdown to expand the lead to 42-0. Drives later, Luke Edwards (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) found a hole for an 80-yard rushing touchdown with seven minutes left in the third quarter. A 23-yard touchdown reception from Ethan Wertman (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) off a pass from Derek Burk (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) closed out the contest for W&J, 55-0.

The Presidents finished the dominant victory with a 648-56 yardage differential with the Golden Tornadoes. The stout W&J defense also only allowed the Geneva offense to go 1-for-14 on third downs.

The Presidents return to Cameron Stadium next Saturday (Oct. 10) for their annual homecoming game. Kickoff against the Bethany Bison is set for 2:00 p.m.
