Women’s Basketball Shines in 100-63 Win over Waynesburg on Senior Day

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's basketball team (19-6, 14-2) celebrated Senior Day in style with a dominant 100-63 victory over visiting Waynesburg University (12-13, 8-8) in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Salvitti Gymnasium.

The Presidents honored their seniors prior to the start of the contest. Stellanie Loutsion (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), Brianna Toal (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and Riley DeRubbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) were all recognized for their dedication to the program prior to the victory, which marked the 90th win over the past four seasons for W&J.

Stellanie Loutsion (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) matched her season high with 26 points on a 10-of-19 shooting effort. Riley DeRubbo (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Brianna Toal (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) contributed eight and six points, respectively. A pair of juniors, Jaden Wan (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock) and Katie Kovalchick (Shelocta, Pa./Indiana Area), each scored in double figures with 13 points and 12 points, respectively.

Both teams came out of the gates firing offensively. Waynesburg used some strong early shooting to take a 14-13 lead at the 6:17 mark. Consecutive three-point field goals by Kovalchick and Loutsion helped the Presidents regain the lead for good. The back-to-back triples helped fuel a 29-0 run over the final 5:59 of the opening quarter. Loutsion finished with 14 points over the opening 10 minutes of play. The Presidents held a commanding 42-14 advantage at the end of the first. The 42 points established a new program record for points scored in the first quarter of play.

Field goals by Jacey Mullen (New Springfield, Ohio/Springfield Local) and Raegan Kadlecik (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) in the early stages of the second quarter extended the run to 33-0, which pushed the Presidents' lead to 46-14. The Presidents eventually took a 58-28 advantage into halftime after a late three by DeRubbo.

All three seniors connected on three-point field goals during the middle minutes of the third quarter. The trio of triples extended the Presidents' lead to 71-38 at the 5:14 mark. A few minutes later, Kadlecik accounted for five-straight points as the lead reached 40 points. Wan concluded the third quarter scoring with a three-point play that made the score 82-44 heading into the fourth.

Shannon Conley (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin), Brooke Paylo (South Park, Pa./South Park), Alayna Wagner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks), Ava Capozzoli (Canonsburg, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) and Emily Mountain (Youngstown, N.Y./Lewport) all found the score sheet during the final quarter as W&J coasted to the lopsided victory. Saturday's game marked the fourth time in program history that the Presidents reached the 100-point mark in a single game. The 100 points matches the third highest single game total in program history.

W&J converted 47 percent (39-83) from the field. The Presidents drained a season-high 13 three pointers in the victory. Waynesburg finished at 30.8 percent from the field (24-of-78) and 20 percent from three-point distance (8-of-40).

The Presidents held major advantages in bench points (42-16), points in the paint (50-26) and rebounding (57-44).

W&J will host the quarterfinal round on Tuesday (Feb. 24) to open the 2026 Presidents' Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. The Presidents will serve as the second seed from the PAC South division. They will face the three seed from the PAC North division, Geneva College, at 6 p.m.
