AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team (6-2) had the offense rolling in a 18-9 victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers (4-8) on day three of the 2026 RussMatt Invitational.
Keegan Carr (Irwin, Pa./Norwin / Indiana University of Pennsylvania) and
Andrew Miko (Portage, Pa./Portage) each led the team in hits with three each. Carr drove in three runs with a walk, while Miko had two RBIs with a stolen base. Four other Presidents including
Josh Dezenzo (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington),
Luke Alvarez (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward),
Tyler Maddix (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin) and
Seth Rosenfeld (Ellicott City, Md./Long Reach) all contributed two hits as well. Carr and
Teddy Platt (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) led the team in runs batted in with three each. The Presidents drew 11 walks had 16 hits as a team.
The Presidents offense produced runs immediately out of the gates, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Zac Stern (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) and Alvarez each walked runs in in the first frame. Freshman Maddix knocked a single that scored two runs. Fellow freshman Rosenfeld knocked a deep double to left center field to score a run as well. A
Jack Anderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) single which scored Carr from second capped the scoring for the Presidents, up 9-0.
Despite the Tigers putting up six runs as a response in the top of the second, W&J responded with a run in the bottom of the frame. An RIT error off the bat of Rosenfeld allowed Maddix to score from second, up 10-6.
W&J added more insurance to their lead with four runs scored in the fifth inning. Stern, Miko, and Alvarez each singled to score one run each in the frame. Platt walked in a run to close the scoring for the Presidents in the bottom of the fifth.
The Tigers added three runs in the seventh to cut the lead to 14-9. W&J capped off the final three innings with four additional runs, two runs each in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to take the 18-9 victory.
Chase Perry (Ponte Vedra, Fla./Nease) got the start in their third contest of the spring break trip, pitching 4.0 innings with four strikeouts.
Justin Giarrusso (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) came into relief for the Presidents in the fifth inning and threw 2.0 innings to pick up his second win of the season. The senior fanned four batters in his time on the mound.
Thomas McLaren (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) and
Max Stanger (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph Collegiate) came in to close out the victory. McLaren pitched 2.0 innings with one strikeout while Stanger closed the game out in the ninth frame.
The Presidents take brief break before coming back to Auburndale for their final games of the RussMatt Invitational, competing against Rochester University and Mount Saint Mary (N. Y.). Their first matchup on Friday (March 13) is set for a 9:00 a.m. start against Rochester.
