Barthelemy leads Presidents to Sixth Place Finish at Port City Classic

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's golf team registered a sixth-place team team finish at the Port City Classic in Georgia. The two-day, 36-hole event was held at Savannah Country Club and hosted by Berry College. A total of 16 teams and 91 golfers competed in the event.

W&J: 6th of 16

Top W&J Individual: Julia Barthelemy (Crescent, Pa./Moon Area) paced the Presidents at the event by tying for 13th place. Barthelemy carded a 36-hole total of 161 (80-81). The junior tallied two birdies and eight pars during her opening round on Monday. Barthelemy then recorded a birdie and nine pars during the final 18 holes Tuesday.

Notables: MacKenzie Schmeltz (Edwardsburg, Mich./Saint Joseph) tied for 42th place with a two-day total score of 176 (86-90). Schmeltz opened the tournament with a round of 86 that included six pars during her round on Monday. The senior then finished with a total of 90 on Tuesday. Megan Joyce (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) finished tied for 47th with a 36-hole score of 177 (97-80). Following a tough opening round on Monday, Joyce responded to fire an 80 on Tuesday in a round that included two birdies and six pars. Lauren Tekely (Glendale, W.Va./John Marshall) tied for 51st place with a two-day score of 178 (82-96). Tekely logged an opening round of 82 with 11 pars during play on Monday.

Tournament Highlights
Top Team: Kenyon College built a 15-stoke lead after the opening round and held off Rhodes to take the team title. The Owls finished with a two-day total of 631 (308-323) to edge the Lynx who posted a 635 (323-312). Oglethorpe, Pfeiffer and Transylvania rounded out the top five teams.

Top Individual: Kirstyn Page of Pfeiffer took medalist honors by finishing one stroke ahead of Lauren Schwing of Rhodes.

Up Next: W&J men's golf returns to action on Saturday (March 28) for the Pennsylvania Classic hosted at Penn State University. Action will take place at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa.
