HILTON HEAD, S. C. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team (12-6) won its spring break match at the Spring Lake Racquet Club against the AMCC Champion Penn State Behrend Lions (10-3), 6-1.
The Presidents swept the doubles point to open the match, 1-0.
Keiran Moorhead (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) and
Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) won a competitive 6-4 No.1 doubles match.
Bella Graham (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) and
Maya Hamade (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) won at No. 2 doubles to seal the team point with a 6-1 win.
Austyn Paugh (Jane Lew, W.Va./Notre Dame) and
Addy Jacobs (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) picked up a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
W&J took all but one singles match to close out the 6-1 win. Paugh got things going for the Presidents with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles. Hamade got back to her winning ways with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles. Moorhead clinched the victory for the Presidents with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Loomis and
Paisley Cole (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) added on with victories at No. 1 and 5 singles. Loomis won in three sets (6-0, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6)) and Cole won 6-4, 7-5.
The Presidents returns to action at Hilton Head to face a familiar foe in the Franciscan Barons on Friday (March 13). The match is set for a 10:00 a.m. start.
