WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson college men's tennis team (0-7) dropped its spring home opener to the Penn State Altoona Lions (5-4), 4-3.
W&J opened their first spring match at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center by winning the doubles point, 1-0. The No. 2 doubles duo of
Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va./Logan) and
Colby Peters (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) picked up a 6-2 win.
Jacob Bennett (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) and
Nick Bussard (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) helped to secure the first team of the match with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Presidents backslid in the singles matches, dropping four of the six solo contests.
Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) won a closely contested No. 4 singles match in three sets after splitting the first sets 4-6, 6-3. Clarke closed out the win with a 6-3 score in the third set. Bussard continued his impressive 2026 campaign with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
W&J men's tennis returns to the courts for their rescheduled match between the Geneva Golden Tornadoes on Tuesday (March 24). The Presidents' Athletic Conference opener is set for a 6:00 p.m. start.
