WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse (3-4, 1-2) dropped its second Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup of the season to the Chatham Cougars (6-1, 2-0) Saturday afternoon.
Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) powered the W&J offense with four goals and one assist.
Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy) and
Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley) finished the day with two goals each.
Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) and
Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) each knocked in a goal each as well.
Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Cardinal Newman) led the team in caused turnovers with four, accompanied by Bogats and Kloehn with three each. Holland also led the team in ground balls with six.
Chatham got out to an early lead in the first quarter, outscoring the Presidents 3-2. Bolinda broke the ice with the game's first goal of the contest at the 12:50 mark. The Cougars responded with three straight goals before the Presidents responded with a Bogats goal with 40 seconds left in the quarter.
W&J remained consistent in the second quarter, being outscored 3-2 in the second quarter. Goals from Kloehn and Bolinda snapped a scoring spree from the Cougars to help reduce the deficit before the halftime break, down 6-4.
Chatham broke the game open in the third quarter, doubling their score with a six-goal quarter to the Presidents' one goal, 12-5. Stewart scored the lone goal for W&J in the period off a pass from Holland.
W&J attempted a late comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring five goals in the final frame. Bolinda scored two goals including the final marker for the Red & Black.
Madison Hecker (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) concluded the game with all 60 minutes of action in goal with six saves.
The Presidents return to action on Thursday (April 2) with a neutral site matchup with Rhodes at Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. The nonconference clash is set for a 2:00 p.m. start.
