WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team (4-7, 4-0) coasted to their fourth straight Presidents' Athletic Conference victory in an early week match with the Thiel Tomcats (0-9, 0-5), 6-1.
W&J began their fourth conference match of the season by sweeping in doubles, 1-0. The Presidents opened the day with a 1-0 advantage with a forfeit at No. 3 doubles. The duo of
Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) and
Alex Duing (South Park, Pa./South Park) picked up a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
Nick Bussard (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) and
Jacob Bennett (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) won their No. 3 doubles match by a score of 6-0.
The Presidents won all but one singles match en route to their 6-1 team victory.
Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va./Logan) picked up a win at No. 2 doubles in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Duing won at No. 3 singles by a two-set score of 6-3, 6-0. Clarke also picked up a victory at No. 4 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-2. At No. 5 singles, freshman
Colby Peters (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) won his match 6-1, 6-0. Bussard concluded the wins for the Presidents at No. 6 singles with a forfeit victory.
The Presidents enjoy a short break before returning to PAC play against the Franciscan Barons on Wednesday (April 8). Doubles play is set for a 4:00 p.m. start in Steubenville.
