WASHINGTON, Pa. -The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team (14-6) closes out the 2025-26 season with a 5-2 senior day over the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackers (8-4). This win marks the most wins that the team has achieved in a single season since 2014.
The Presidents started out the season strong by winning both of the contested matches to sweep the doubles point. Junior captain
Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and freshman
Keiran Moorhead (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) opened the day with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Finally, the freshmen pairing of
Bella Graham (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) and
Maya Hamade (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) rounded out the sweep with a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position.
The bottom of the lineup came through to secure the overall dual win for the Presidents. W&J picked up wins from the 3-5 positions. No. 6 singles was not contested, but went in the Presidents' favor. Moorhead kicked off the points with a straightforward 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. At the No. 4 position, Hamade secured a 6-0, 6-0 win as well. Rounding out the contested points for the Red & Black was freshman
Austyn Paugh (Jane Lew, W.Va./Notre Dame), picking up a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 spot.
The Presidents came into the 2025-26 season with a young lineup that has developed and has shown that they can compete at a high level in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. In the fall, the Presidents picked up their first playoff victory since the 2020-21 season. In individual singles play, Hamade only had two losses during her rookie season, going 15-2 at the No. 4 position. Additionally, Moorhead finished the freshman's rookie season with only three losses, going 14-3 at the No. 3 position. Paugh picked up crucial points at the No. 6 position and finished the year with a 12-4 record.
The top two doubles pairings provided strong records to help W&J earn the important doubles point in many matches to gain an edge in singles play. Both the pairings of Loomis and Moorhead, along with Graham and Hamade, both finished the campaign with 11-7 records.
