Women’s Tennis Downs Pitt-Greensburg in Home Opener, 7-0

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team (1-0) opened their 2026 campaign with a 7-0 sweep over the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats (3-2).
 
The Presidents got off to a great start, opening partnered play with a sweep to attain the first team point of the afternoon, 1-0. All doubles teams for the Presidents picked up sweeps. Keiran Moorhead (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) and captain Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) picked up a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. The duo of Keira Ross (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and Maya Hamade (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) collected a 6-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles for W&J. The tandem of Austyn Paugh (Jane Lew, W.Va./Notre Dame) and Mackenzie Gumto (Renfrew, Pa./Knoch) wrapped up the doubles matches with a 6-0 win at the No. 3 slot.
 
W&J coasted into individual play with six additional wins to sweep the Bobcats, 7-0. Moorhead and Loomis each collected wins by forfeit at No.1 and No. 2 singles. Hamade picked up where she left off after her freshman season, opening the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Bella Graham (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) defeated her opponent in straight sets by a 6-1, 6-1 score at the No. 4 slot. Freshman Kiera Ross made her home debut for the Presidents, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 5 singles. Austin Paugh capped off the victories at her solidified No. 6 singles spot, 6-0, 6-0.
 
W&J returns to the courts on Monday (Sept. 14) to face the visiting Seton Hill Griffins. Doubles matches are set to commence at 4:00 p.m. at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
