WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington and Jefferson College women's tennis team (2-1, 0-1) fell 7-0 in their Presidents' Athletic Conference opening match against the Grove City Wolverines (3-0).
 
Grove City got off to a hot start, taking the two out of the three doubles matches to take the overall point. Senior captain Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and sophomore Keiran Moorhead (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) battled their way to a 7-5 victory at the No. 1 position. The two top pairings kept the match on serve until 5-5 and the Presidents got a late break that held up to take the set.
 
The Wolverines ultimately won the singles matches, but the Presidents did not go down without a fight. Sets in three of the six matches were decided by only one break of serve. Additionally, sophomore Maya Hamade (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) won a set at No. 3 singles. Hamade fought to the very end but ultimately fell 13-11 in the tiebreaker. The overall scoreline of the match was 6-2, 2-6, 0-1 (11-13).
 
The Presidents return to the court for their first dual match road trip of the 2026 season on Saturday (Sept. 19) when the team travels to take on the Allegheny Gators. The first matches from Meadville will begin at 10:00 a.m.
