WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team (1-4, 1-3) drops a 4-0 decision to the John Carroll Blue Streaks (2-5, 1-1).
John Carroll got off to a strong start offensively from the opening whistle. The Blue Streaks opened the scoring in the 13
th minute to take a 1-0 lead going into the second quarter.
The Presidents were looking to equalize throughout the second frame. Junior
Jessica Nakanishi (Susanville, Calif./Lassen) and senior
Megan Brackney (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) both had simultaneous chances, forcing the John Carroll netminder to make a save. The Presidents also got a set piece chance following a penalty corner.
The Blue Streaks netted two additional goals in the second period, but W&J were still trying to fight and get back in the contest. Junior
Capriana Romano (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) forced the John Carroll goaltender to make another important save to keep the extended lead going into the halftime break.
John Carrol rounded out the scoring in the third quarter and expanded their lead going into the final frame. W&J played some strong defense in the fourth quarter and kept the Blue Streaks from scoring, but ultimately John Carroll took the overall victory 4-0.
Junior
Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) recorded 15 saves throughout the contest in goal for the Red & Black.
W&J closes out their four game homestand on Sunday (Sept. 26) when they host the Cedar Crest Falcons for a 12:00 p.m. start.
