Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team opened up their 2026 fall season competing at the two-day Allegheny Invitational. The Red & Black competed against opponents from across all three divisions.
 
Day One Results

The Presidents picked up 14 wins across singles and doubles throughout the first day of action at the event. Sophomore Addison Jacobs (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) and junior captain Mackenzie Gumto (Renfrew, Pa./Knoch) both led the Presidents with two singles victories and one doubles win, going undefeated on the day. Gumto started out the day with a 6-3, 6-1 victory, and reversed the scoreline with a 6-1, 6-3 win.  Alongside partner Austyn Paugh (Jane Lew, W.Va./Notre Dame) secured a victory with a 6-1 set. Paugh went 2-1 on the day and also picked up a 6-3, 6-1 singles win. 
 
Jacobs began her day with a straightforward 6-1, 6-2 victory. Jacobs also picked up a second singles win with a 7-5, 6-0 scoreline. In doubles play, Jacobs picked up a 6-0 doubles win with partner Bella Graham (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area). The sophomore also earned a earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory in singles to go 2-1 on the day.
 
Sophomore Keiran Moorhead (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) and freshman Keira Ross (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) both went 2-1 on the day as well. Moorhead defeated a player from a Division II school by a 6-1, 6-0 scoreline. Moorhead also went toe-to-toe with the reigning PAC Player and Newcomer of the Year and forced a deciding set tiebreak with a 12-10 scoreline. The sophomore, alongside partner Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), forced an extended set against the reigning All-PAC First Team doubles pairing from last season. Loomis also came from a set down to force a final set deciding tiebreak in singles play as well.
 
Ross picked up her first singles win as a President in convincing fashion. The freshman won 6-1, 6-0 against a Division II opponent. Ross also picked up her first collegiate doubles win with a 6-3 set alongside partner Maya Hamade (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair).
 
Day 2 Results
 
W&J picked up an additional eight wins on day two of the Allegheny Invitational. Four Presidents led the way with 2-1 records between singles and doubles during the final day of the event.
 
Hamade and Ross started out their day with a 6-3 victory in doubles. Hamade also battled to the very end in her singles match, but ultimately fell in a third set super tiebreaker.
 
Jacobs and Graham also picked up a doubles win by taking their set 6-1. Graham used that momentum to secure a 6-4, 6-0 victory in singles later in the day. Jacobs came back from a set down to force a third set super tiebreaker in singles as well. The sophomore ended up falling 10-1 in the tiebreaker but put forth a valiant effort.
 
Loomis and Moorhead ended day two with two doubles wins as a tandem. The pairing started out the day with a 6-4 win and battled their way to a 7-6 (2) victory later on in the event. Both players were given tough draws in day two singles play, but Loomis and Moorhead held their own. Loomis' match went into a final set tiebreaker and Moorhead drew a Division I opponent.
 
Paugh and Gumto went 1-1 in doubles play on the day. The tandem forced an extended set in their first match and closed out the event with a 6-1 victory. Additionally, Paugh came back from a set down to pick up a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) singles victory in a super tiebreak.
 
The Presidents will look to take the momentum from this successful invitational weekend into dual play. W&J will host Pitt-Greensburg on Friday (Sept. 11). Doubles matches will begin at 4:00 p.m. from the Janet Swanson Tennis Center with singles matches following afterwards.
