A former national high school coach of the year, Bill Gallagher ’79 enters his fifth season as an Assistant Defensive Coordinator in the 2020 season.
Gallagher previously served as the Associate Head Coach at Seton LaSalle High School from 2013-15.
From 2000-12, Gallagher was the Head Football Coach at Perry Traditional Academy where he led the team to seven Pittsburgh City League titles and two state semifinal berths. In 2003, he was named the National Coach of the Year by Russell Athletics and the Coach of the Year by the Eastern Association of Interscholastic Football Officials. His 2002 team recorded an impressive 13 consecutive shutouts.
During the years of 1989-2000, Gallagher served as an assistant coach at Avonworth, South Fayette, Seton LaSalle and Brashear high schools.
As a coach, Gallagher is a seven-time Curbstone Coach’s City League Coach of the Year, two-time New Pittsburgh Courier Coach of the Year and three-time PSFCA District VIII Coach of the Year.
From 1989-2015, Gallagher also worked at as a Social Studies and a Special Education teacher at public high schools in the Pittsburgh area.
Gallagher earned his Grades K-12 Special Education Certificate from Duquesne in 1996 and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Grades 6-12 Social Studies Teaching Certificate from W&J in 1979.
