Matt Rochna (St. Bonaventure, '15) enters his eighth season as head men's and women's swimming and diving coach in 2025-26.
Rochna was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Swimming Coach of the Year after the W&J men's swimming & diving team wrapped the 2024-25 PAC Championships as the runner-up. Under his tutelage, Logan Marks broke his record in the 200-yard breaststroke and became a back-to-back champion in the event at the conference championships. Rochna also aided in the development of PAC Men's Diver of the Year Zach Lloyd. Lloyd won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive at the PAC Championships.
During the 2023-24 season, Rochna helped coach nine Presidents to All-PAC honors including two All-PAC First Team honorees. Logan Marks broke school records in the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Breaststroke during the 2024 PAC Championships.
Three Presidents earned All-PAC honors following the 2022-23 season. A total of 10 Presidents (Six men, four women) earned All-PAC honors in 2021-22. Leading the way was two-time PAC Women's Diver of the Year, Taylor Weyrich, who earned conference titles in both the 1-Meter (431.05) and 3-Meter (432.75). Rochna led the W&J men's team to a third place finish at the PAC Championships, its best finish since the 2015-16 season.
Seven members of the W&J swimming & diving program received All-PAC honors in 2020-21. Taylor Weyrich claimed Second Team All-America status from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches of America (CSCAA) and earned the 2020-21 PAC Women's Diver of the Year award.
In his second season, Rochna had three men's swimmers collect All-PAC applause. Colin Higinbotham, Andrew Ivory and Dean Kralic all made multiple trips to the "A" finals at the 2019-20 PAC Championships and were each rewarded with All-PAC Second Team recognition. Freshman Sarah Marshall posted the top women's individual finish with a fourth-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke. At PACs, W&J notched 26 lifetime best swims, 48 season best swims, and sixteen top eight individual and relay finishes.
Rochna compiled a 3-4 record with the men's team and a 2-7 mark with the women's program during his first season in 2018-19. With Rochna's guidance, Kaitlyn Pawcio and Dean Kralic earned All-PAC honors. Pawcio also qualified for the NCAA Diving Regionals.
Rochna arrives at W&J following a season as the assistant swimming & diving coach at NCAA Division I Ohio University. This past season, the Bobcats placed seventh at the Mid-American Conference Championships and placed 13 student-athletes on the Academic All-MAC team.
Prior to Ohio, Rochna served as the graduate assistant swimming & diving coach at Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania for two seasons in his hometown of Indiana, Pa. He was also the head coach for the YMCA of Indiana County Piranhas youth swimming team, where he specialized in working with senior-level swimmers (13-18 year olds).
A 2015 graduate of St. Bonaventure University, Rochna competed on the men's swimming & diving team from 2011-15. During his tenure at St. Bonaventure, he helped the Bonnies to consecutive Atlantic 10 Conference championships (2013 & 2014), including breaking a school record in the 200 butterfly (1:48.41) as a conference finalist. He was a team captain during his senior campaign.
Rochna holds a bachelor's degree from St. Bonaventure in sport studies with a concentration in human development and learning and a master's degree from IUP in sports science/sport management. He was a six-time Dean's List recipient in undergrad and was a College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America.
