Nicole Vitello (SUNY-Binghamton '06) begins her 11th season as the head coach of the Washington & Jefferson softball program in 2018.

A two-time Presidents' Athletic Conference Coach of the Year (2008, 2014), Vitello holds a 166-196 record with the Presidents. She is W&J's career softball coaching wins leader and W&J has won at least 25 games three times during her tenure.

The 2014 season went down as one of the most successful years in school history as the Presidents posted a 25-12 overall record, won the program's third PAC title and made W&J's first appearance in the NCAA Division III softball tournament.

W&J entered the 2014 PAC Tournament in Kentucky as the No. 3 seed and after an opening loss to Geneva, the Presidents ripped off four-straight victories to capture the championship.

Since Vitello's arrival on campus, 18 Presidents have earned all-conference recognition, including 2008 PAC Player of the Year center fielder Amanda Howard and 2009 CoSIDA Academic All-America first baseman Valerie Schultz.

Vitello also played an important role in the development of 2014 graduate Kelsey Cunningham, who became the Presidents' all-time leader in both hits (189) and runs scored (118).

The 2008 season marked her first as a collegiate head coach and the Presidents enjoyed their best season in school history. Vitello was named the PAC Coach of the Year after guiding W&J to a school-record 28 victories. W&J also claimed the regular-season Presidents' Athletic Conference title and hosted the PAC Tournament for the first time in school history.

W&J earned the No. 2 seed and hosting rights for the ECAC Division III Southern Tournament. The Presidents appeared in the postseason event for only the third time in history.

Vitello spent the 2006-2007 school year at Allegheny College as the assistant softball coach. She helped the Gators win the NCAC Championship and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Vitello was a four-year letterwinner in softball at Division I SUNY-Binghamton where she earned a bachelor’s degree in human development and education in 2006. She is a two-time All America East second team all-conference choice (2004, 2005).
