Nickelle Smith began working with Washington & Jefferson's track and field program during the 2014–2015 school year. She arrived at W&J from her hometown of the Bronx, New York after being a volunteer assistant coach for the Bronx Tigers Track Club, where she helped coach cross country, sprints and jumps for four years.
From the years of 2007-2011, Smith was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Fairleigh Dickinson University (N.J.) where she competed in long jump, the 100 meter dash, 60 meter dash, 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash; along with the 4X100 meter relay, 4X400 meter relay and the sprint medley relay.
She was also involved with the student body by being a member of the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), where she served as a voice and mentor of other student-athletes.
Smith graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. She has a background in Mental health and education while continuing to pursue her coaching career.
