Maeve Gallagher returned to W&J in the summer of 2019 for her second stint with the women's basketball program.
Gallagher previously served as W&J's intern assistant coach from 2015-18 before joining the coaching staff at Division I Longwood University for the 2018-19 season. While with Longwood, she coached All-Big South Second Team selection Dayna Rouse, who led the conference and ranked among the top 25 in the NCAA with a .565 field-goal percentage
During her successful three-year run at W&J, the program compiled a 62-22 overall record and 44-10 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play during that time. With Gallagher on staff, the Presidents earned three consecutive top-three finishes in the PAC, advancing to two ECAC Tournaments including a championship game berth in 2016, and won at least 20 games twice.
Gallagher worked alongside veteran head coach Jina DeRubbo, who was named PAC PAC Coach of the Year (2016 and 2018) twice with Gallagher on the coaching staff. Under DeRubbo, Gallagher played a vital role in the program's recruiting, scouting, preparation of practice plans and assisting in day-to-day basketball operations. She was key in the recruitment and development of 2018 PAC Freshman of the Year Lauren Gilbert, who averaged 12.8 points per game during her rookie season with the Presidents.
Gallagher was a three-sport athlete participating in four years of soccer, basketball, and softball at Point Park University. After graduating from Point Park in 2013 with a BAS in Instructional Studies, Gallagher became the first assistant women’s soccer coach and head reserves coach at Mount Union.
Over her two years in the position, Gallagher was able to gain experience in many areas including recruitment, scouting, scheduling, and organization. She then lead her reserve team to an undefeated season in 2014.
Gallagher also gained an edge by professionally shadowing head coach Jess Strom and her staff at California (Pa.) for a year. During her time there she was able to identify importance of player development and plan philosophies and strategies of the game.
