Matt Lynch took over as head coach for the men’s and women’s tennis programs in February 2024.
The 2025-26 academic year was the most successful campaign during Lynch's tenure. Both W&J tennis teams secured wins in their respective PAC Tournaments during the year. The W&J women's team finished with 14 victories, which was the most in a single season since 2014. The Presidents finished with an 8-1 record in home matches during the 25-26 season. The men's program beat Saint Vincent in the PAC Tournament, which allowed Lynch to secure his first postseason victory during his time on the men's side.
In his first season with the W&J Women's Tennis program, Lynch guided the Presidents to a 7-8 overall record (4-4 PAC). Lynch managed to continue W&J's now seven-year streak of making the PAC Tournament. On the men's side, Lynch coached the Presidents to an 8-11 overall record (4-4 PAC) and a PAC Tournament berth for the second-straight season. During the season, W&J got off to its best start in conference play since the 2019 season with four-straight victories against conference foes. Both programs combined for seven All-PAC selections, four on the women's team and three on the men's team.
Lynch guided the men's team to a 4-4 conference record and a berth in the 2024 PAC Tournament in April. Four Presidents earned All-PAC honors following the season.
Lynch brings well-rounded coaching experiences at the college and instructional levels. Since the summer of 2015, Lynch has worked as a tennis instructor at Glen Creek Tennis Club in South Park. At Glen Creek, he was responsible for managing junior and adult clinics and conducting private lessons and one-on-one individualized instruction for all ages.
Lynch competed at both Grove City and West Liberty University during his time as a student-athlete. During his time as a freshman at Grove City, the Wolverines earned the 2015 PAC Men’s Tennis Championship. Lynch was the individual champion at fifth singles where he defeated Joshua St. Clair of W&J in the championship match. Lynch was a consistent starter in the middle of the lineup for West Liberty during the 2018 season.
Lynch is a 2020 graduate of California University of PA. He served as a student assistant coach with the women’s tennis program from August 2015 through May 2017.
