Washington & Jefferson College athletics has announced Brian Krenzelak as the head coach of the inaugural women's wrestling NCAA Division III varsity program in November of 2024. The program is set to launch full competition during the 2026-27 academic year.
Â
Krenzelak, the 2023 AAA WPIAL Coach of the Year and 2023 Section Coach of the Year, arrives to W&J after spending the past two years as head boys and girls varsity head coach and wrestling coordinator for the Canon-McMillan school district. In March, Krenzelak helped Valerie Solorio become the first PIAA girls wrestling champion. Her individual title helped Canon-McMillan become the first-ever PIAA girls wrestling team champions.Â
Â
Krenzelak was a pivotal part of the Canon-McMillan girls wrestling program coming to fruition, as from 2022-23 he managed the Canon-McMillan girls wrestling club team prior to its activation as a high school sport. During the 2023-24 season, Krenzelak oversaw a staff of 14 coaches from the middle and high school level. He also took the lead on communication between prospective athletes and college programs.
Â
Since 2001, Krenzelak has been closely involved with the Canon-McMillan wrestling programs as the junior high wrestling coach. During his 20-year tenure in junior high wrestling, Krenzelak was named a multi-year Section and WPIAL Coach of the Year. In 2018, He was selected as the State Junior High Coach of the Year.
Â
Krenzelak boasts a 276-18 overall coaching record with 18 team section championships, 28 junior individual state champions, and three girls state champions.Â
Â
Krenzelak also spent time running his own business called Wrestling With Virtue, LLC. The program looks to guide the younger generations of wrestling through their young careers on the mat and through a character education program. Â He is a certified coach through USA Wrestling (Bronze, Copper, Teal) and is a USA Wrestling High Performance Leader.Â
