Washington & Jefferson College athletics has announced Daniel Follett as the head coach of the institution's inaugural men's volleyball program in November of 2024.
Follett comes to W&J after spending the past two years at Chatham University as the Cougars' Assistant Men's and Women's Volleyball Coach. There, Follett specialized on defense and serve-receive, while assisting in the training, planning, administering of practices, coaching decisions and recruitment of new student-athletes. He also led statistical analysis, assisted in game planning and preparation and video breakdown for each program.
Follett helped to build the first men's volleyball program at Chatham, assisting the program for the first six wins in school history. In 2023, Follett aided in the women's volleyball teams 18-6 record (9-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play) and PAC Championship run.
Follett arrived at Chatham after spending four years as the Director of Athletics & Activities, at Slippery Rock Area School District. In addition to his administrative duties, he was also the inaugural head coach of the Slippery Rock Area Boys' Volleyball Team.
Prior to his time at Slippery Rock, Follett held the role of Assistant Director of Athletics and Activities at Seneca Valley School District while also head coaching the boys' volleyball team. Under his direction, Seneca Valley collected a section championship in 2015. The team also finished second in the WPIAL and third in the PIAA. Follett helped 10 of his players continue their volleyball careers into college.
Before his time working in high school administration, Follett took his experience to Division I Mercer University's Women's Indoor and Sand Volleyball teams.
Follett graduated from Juniata College in June of 2011 with a bachelor's degree in history. Follett also holds two master's degrees in management from Argosy University '14 and higher education leadership and administration from Mercer University '12. During his playing career at Juniata, he was a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner at outside hitter and libero. In his sophomore season, Follett helped the Eagles to the school's sixth Molten National Championship.
Prior to arriving to Juniata, Follett led Seneca Valley to a No. 1 rank in PIAA play in 2007, becoming the all-time school leader in kills and points. He finished his high school career as a three-time First Team All-Section, two-time All-WPIAL, and First Team All-PIAA honoree.
The inaugural program is set to launch full competition during the 2026-27 academic year.
