W&J opens California trip with 15-8 win at Caltech


PASADENA, Calif. -- The Presidents ran their winning streak to six games with a 15-8 win at Caltech to open the annual west coast trip.

The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team improves to 8-4 on the season after a 2-4 start to the campaign.

Mitch Fountain led the way with four goals after earlier in the day being named to the Southern Division Rookie of the Week Honor Roll by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA).

Nick Willison and Carl Krause each added a trio of goals in the victory, while Kevin Dunigan scored a pair of goals. Patrick Fredrick, Jon Krail and Nicholas Williams all found the back of the net once against the Beavers.

Chris DeNunzio continued his stellar senior season with nine saves after earlier in the day being named to the CWPA Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week Honor Roll.

W&J will now take part in the two-day Gary Troyer Tournament, with the first two games on Friday, Oct. 3 against Whittier and California Lutheran in Claremont, Calif.
