WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team kepts its hopes at a Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament berth alive with a 3-0 (25-18, 28-26, 25-14) sweep of Grove City.
With the win, the Presidents improve to 13-9 on the season with a 7-8 mark in PAC play. Grove City drops to 12-13 and 5-9 in the league.
Taylor Freeman led all players with a career-high 17 kills, including nine in the first set.
Nicole Bishwaty added 11 kills,
Lindsey Bennett posted eight kills and
Alexis Hilzendeger chipped in seven kills. Bennett, Bishwaty and Freeman all had a .304 or higher hitting percentage.
Megan Stoehr recorded 29 assists and
Emily Toy was in double figures at 13. Bishwaty, Toy and
Sarah Stedina each had two service aces.
Allison Means led three Presidents with double-figure digs at 28. Stoehr tallied 15 and Bishwaty contributed 12 digs. Bennett posted her 13th match of the season, and fifth straight, with at least four blocks, notching five against Grove City.
W&J travels to Westminster on Thursday, Oct. 23 for a 7 p.m. match that is pivotal to both teams' playoff chances.
