WINCHESTER, Va. -- The Presidents dropped a consecutive game for the first time this season with a 2-1 defeat against Lynchburg (Va.) at Shenandoah.
The loss causes the Washington & Jefferson field hockey team to drop to 7-4 on the season. Lynchburg improves over .500 to 7-6.
It took 55 minutes for the first goal of the game as Lynchburg's Kelsey Link opened the scoring with 15 minutes left. Link added her second goal of the game 3:54 later to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead.
Amanda Steffey's team-leading ninth goal of the season with 2:14 to play cut the margin to 2-1, but W&J was unable to secure another shot the rest of the way. The goal was assisted by
Caroline Kallos and came just after a penalty corner by
Catherine Beaudoin.
Despite shots being even, 5-5, in the first half, the Hornets finished with a 21-7 lead in the category. Steffey and
Lauren Brown each had three shots to lead the Presidents.
W&J has a three-game road trip coming up with the first game on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m. against Kenyon.
