ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team began the 2014 Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship with a 13-6 to fifth-seeded St. Francis (Brooklyn).
The loss drops the 12th-seeded Presidents to 14-15 on the season. W&J will take on Fordham tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 22 at 11:30 a.m. with the winner advancing to the fifth-place game.
Mike Magdic stopped a 3-0 run that SFC began the game with to end the first period with W&J down 3-1.
After the Terriers scored the first three goals of the second quarter, the Presidents answered with three goals of their own over a 2:43 span.
Kevin Dunigan started the run at 5:46 left,
Nick Willison found the back of the net at 4:31 and
Carl Krause (assisted by
Josh Apple) capped the run at 3:03 left. SFC then scored two of the final three goals of the first half, with Magdic notching the only W&J goal as it was 8-5 at halftime.
Krause scored the only goal for W&J in the second half as the Presidents fell 13-6.
Krause and Magdic each scored two goals.
Chris DeNunzio made seven saves in the loss.
