ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- NCAA Division I Fordham downed the Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team, 9-7, at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship, hosted by the Naval Academy.
With the loss, the Presidents drop to 14-16 on the season and will play the loser of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Iona game on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 9 a.m.
The first five goals of the game were back-and-forth scores with the Presidents holding a 3-2 lead thanks to scores by
Kevin Dunigan,
Patrick Fredrick and
Conor Crowe. The Rams then scored three-straight goals to take a 5-3 lead with 6:13 to play in the first half.
Ben McGrath scored with 2:13 to play in the half and then Crowe (44 seconds) and Fredrick (one second) scored with under a minute left as the Presidents trailed at the half, 7-6.
Just three goals were scored in the final 16 minutes, with
Carl Krause scoring the lone W&J goal.
Chris DeNunzio made eight saves in the defeat.
