ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Presidents' 2014 men's water polo season came to a close with a 13-12 loss to Iona at the Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship.
Washington & Jefferson ends the season with an identical record as 2013 at 14-17, matching the second-highest total in program history. It was the first trip to the CWPA Championship tournament for the Presidents, who earned an at-large bid thanks to their performance at the Southern Championship two weeks prior.
Iona held a 5-2 lead midway through the second quarter thanks to three-straight scores. W&J responded with three of the four final goals of the half to trail 6-5 at halftime.
A 5-3 margin in the third quarter allowed the Gaels to push the lead to three goals and not allow W&J's 4-2 advantage in the fourth quarter to lead to the victory.
Carl Krause led the red and black with four goals, while
Mike Magdic and
Nick Willison each tallied two scores.
Kevin Dunigan tied for the game high with two assists.
Chris DeNunzio stopped six shots in his final appearance in cage for the Presidents.
