PRINCETON, New Jersey -- Washington & Jefferson earned a 15-7 victory over Monmouth (Ill.) Saturday afternoon and then edged Mercyhurst 13-12 later in the evening at the 2014 CWPA Southern Division Championships hosted by Princeton University.Â
The Presidents (14-13) advance to Sunday's fifth-place match where they will take on Division I George Washington. Saturday's victories helped W&J take a big step into possibly earning the program's first-ever bid to the CWPA Championship (Nov. 21-23 - Annapolis, Md.).Â
Against Monmouth, W&J led 6-0 after the first quarter and 10-1 at halftime.Â
Sam Taylor and
Nick Willison both supplied three goals, while
Mitch Fountain netted a pair.
Chris DeNunzio stood strong in the key win over Mercyhurst and finished with seven saves.Â
Mike Magdic,
Carl Krause and
Kevin Dunigan all fired in three goals, while Willison found the back of the cage twice.Â
Patrick Fredrick and
Conor Crowe both added one tally.Â
