Scots fight off Presidents, 2-1

Box Score

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Wooster took a 2-0 lead and it was enough to hold up as it defeated the Washington & Jefferson field hockey team, 2-1, at Cameron Stadium.

With the loss, the Presidents fall to 5-2 on the season while the Fighting Scots even their record at 3-3.

After a scoreless opening 18 minutes, Wooster scored at the 18:33 mark when Claire Moffett finished on a deflection. The Scots led in shots at the half, 6-4.

The guests added on 20 minutes into the second half when Kerry O'Connor finished to the upper left corner after W&J keeper Morgan Brozena came out to challenge.

Lauren Brown answered back 3:40 later when she directed a long stroke from Gina Taglieri past Carrie Mount off of a penalty corner. Despite a few chances and a frantic offensive surge down the stretch, W&J could not find the back of the cage again and fell, 2-1.

Thanks to six second-half shots, W&J held a slim, 10-9, advantage on shots. Amanda Steffey led the Presidents with three shots, while Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week Allison Morrissey and Brown added two each.

Brozena suffered her first loss of the season, falling to 2-1, while making four saves in the contest.

W&J is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 21, traveling to Nazareth for an Empire 8 meeting.
