GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Presidents jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Tomcats came roaring back to tie it 2-2 before W&J secured the decisive fifth set at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team improved to 7-4 on the season and 2-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with the 3-2 victory at Thiel.
The Tomcats drop to 5-10 overall and 2-3 in the league.
W&J won two close games to open up the match 25-23 and 25-22 before Thiel stormed back with a pair of wins, 25-19 and 25-18. The Presidents earned the match win with a strong showing in a 15-9 fifth-set victory.Lindsey Bennett led W&J with 10 kills and a .455 hitting percentage.
Taylor Freeman and
Alexis Hilzendeger added eight and six kills, respectively.
Megan Stoehr recorded 20 assists and four different Presidents posted a service ace.
Defensively, five visitors collected double-digit digs, headlined by
Allison Means with 29. Stoehr and
Nicole Bishwaty each finished with 20 digs. Bennett had a team high four blocks and
Darby McMullen and Hilzendeger each added three blocks.
W&J is back in action on Thursday, Sept. 25 with a non-conference match at La Roche starting at 7 p.m.
