ALTOONA, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team tied the game twice, but was unable to take the lead in a 2-2 double overtime tie at Penn State Altoona.
The tie moves the Presidents to 4-4-1 after non-conference play. W&J begins Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 4 with a 3:30 p.m. match at Westminster.
The Lions (1-8-1) opened the scoring just 4:14 into play, snapping W&J and
Morgan Kinyon's scoreless streak just shy of 300 minutes.
Josie Madden tied the game at 1-1 4:11 into the second half when she chipped a shot over the goalkeeper from 20 yards out following a pass from PAC Offensive Player of the Week
Tatiana Ruzzini.
Penn State Altoona quickly answered back with a score 4:33 later to re-take the lead, 2-1, but Madden found
Lauren Virgin who converted the game-tying goal just 15 seconds later after taking a through ball and shooting over the keeper.
Following regulation, the hosts controlled the first overtime, out-shooting W&J 5-0. W&J posted four shots to just one in the second overtime, including one that was wide right after the keeper came out to challenge and lost her footing.
Hayley Skovira posted four of W&J's 16 shots, with Madden adding three and Ruzzini and Virgin each contributing two shots.
Kinyon made six saves on the night.
