Early scores sink W&J in first loss of season

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Shenandoah scored a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes of the game and the Presidents were unable to recover, suffering a 2-0 defeat in non-conference action at Cameron Stadium.

With the loss, the first of the season for the Washington & Jefferson field hockey team, the Presidents fall to 3-1. The Hornets improve to 2-1 on the year.

Both goals scored by Shenandoah came early in the contest, as they found the back of the net just 4:08 into the game and then again at the 10:51-mark.

W&J held a 5-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but the guests led for the game, 12-5. Amanda Steffey led W&J with a pair of shots. Lauren Brown, Caroline Kallos and Gina Taglieri each added one shot.

Karlie Baran suffered the first loss of her collegiate career, allowing a pair of goals and making four saves in 18:57. Morgan Brozen played the final 51:03 and did not face a shot on goal. The Presidents also made two team saves.

The Presidents return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, hosting Frostburg State at 7 p.m. at Cameron Stadium.
