BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- 12 Presidents scored as the Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team posted a 67-42 win at Geneva in league play.
With the victory, W&J moves to 10-2 on the season and 4-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Geneva drops to 3-9 overall and 1-4 in conference games.
The Presidents held a 25-16 lead at halftime despite making just eight field goals and shooting 24.2 percent (8-of-33) from the floor. Seven made free throws (in nine attempts) helped extend the lead.
Valerie Dunlap and
Taylor Cortazzo each led W&J with seven points at the break, with Dunlap's six boards a game-high.
After being shutout in the first half without attempting a field goal thanks to early foul trouble,
Beka Bellhy erupted for 21 points in the second half. Cortazzo was the only other President in double figures, finishing with 11 points in 24 minutes.
Katey Wilson pulled down seven rebounds in the second half to finish with eight boards, one behind Dunlap for the team lead.
Washington & Jefferson hosts No. 2 Thomas More on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. at the Henry Memorial Center.
