UTICA, N.Y. – Washington & Jefferson field hockey suffered a 2-1 loss against Utica at the Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

With the loss, the Presidents move to a record of 4-7 on the season and a 1-3 record in the Empire 8 Conference.

Utica was on the board first thanks to a shot off of a penalty corner at 5:06 into the game.

It wasn't until late into the second half, at 61:18, that W&J answered with a goal of its own when
Amanda Steffey made her fourth goal of the season with an unassisted high shot.

Although the Presidents led in shots, 14-5, and
Morgan Brozena was in goal with three saves, Utica was able to sneak one past with 1:11 to play to end the game at 2-1.

Steffey was able to get eight shots off, seven of them landing on target.
Kelly Knisel also contributed with three shots, all of them on-goal, while
Allison Morrissey had two of shots of her own.

W&J will remain on the road as it travels to Elmira, N.Y. to take on Elmira in E8 Conference play on Oct. 11 at 1:00 pm.
