BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson ran its winning streak to eight sets and three matches with a 3-0 sweep of Chatham and first-set win against Geneva, before eventually dropping the night cap to the host Golden Tornadoes, 3-1, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference tri-match.
Against the Cougars, W&J scored 25-9, 25-12, 25-15 victories, thanks to a .339 hitting percentage.
Madison Lydic notched her third straight, and fifth of the last seven matches, showing of double-digit kills, finishing with 13 thanks to a .550 hitting percentage, her best with more than 10 total attempts this season.
Taylor Freeman matched Lydic at 13 kills, hitting at a .500-clip.
Nicole Bishwaty dished out 30 assists versus Chatham and
Madison Heil contributed 15 helpers.
Katheryn Rotthoff accounted for half of W&J's six service aces at three.
Allison Means led all players with 21 digs and Rotthoff joined her in double figures at 10.
W&J gave second-place Geneva all it could handle in the second match of the evening, rallying multiple times, including the final three points of the set, to score a 26-24 win in the opener. Freeman and Lydic knotted the match at 24-24 with a block and then Freeman gave the Presidents the advantage with a kill off of Bishwaty's pass before Means closed it out with a service ace to hand the Golden Tornadoes just their fifth set loss in the conference this season and eighth total.
From there, Geneva responded with three set victories to close out the eventual 3-1 win: 25-19, 25-20, 25-12.
Bishwaty posted 13 kills and 10 assists against the GTs for her 11th double-double of the season.
Emily Toy handed out a team-best 18 assists. Means, Rotthoff and
Abigail Eich each tallied a pair of service aces as part of W&J's nine total. Defensively, Means (29),
Sarah Dindak (18) and Rotthoff (11) had double-digit digs and Lydic had a trio of blocks.
W&J (12-9, 7-6) begins a four-game home stand on Tuesday, Oct. 20 when it hosts Thiel at 7 p.m. in the Henry Gymnasium.
