W&J blanks Thiel, 3-0, moves closer to PAC playoff berth

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents moved closer to clinching a return berth in the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Thiel at the Henry Gym.

The win moves Washington & Jefferson to 13-9 overall and 8-6 in the PAC, good for a fourth-place tie with Grove City.

W&J held on for a close 26-24 win in the first game before holding Thiel to the lowest point total allowed this season by the Presidents in a 25-6 second-set win. The match was clinched with a 25-21 win, giving W&J three sweeps in its last four matches.

In the second set, W&J led 4-3 early and then went on an 11-0 run to extend the lead to 15-3. After the two teams traded points, the Presidents scored five straight to take a 21-5 lead before four consecutive points closed out the 25-6 win.
