WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents kept it close, but were unable to pull off the upset bid against Bethany in a 3-0 loss at the Henry Gym.
With the loss, the Washington & Jefferson volleyball team drops to 13-10 overall and 8-7 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. The Bison, the third-place team in the PAC, improve to 23-8 this year and 12-3 in league games.
Set scores were 25-20, 25-17, 25-23. In the third set, the Presidents opened up with a 7-1 lead, but four consecutive points from the guests later tied the set at 13-13, as part of a 9-2 run that saw the Bison open up an 18-15 advantage. Four consecutive points from W&J allowed the hosts to recapture the lead, but Bethany answered with its own four-point run to take a 22-19 lead and eventually the game, 25-23.
On the attack,
Nicole Bishwaty tied for the game high with nine kills (with a team-high .227 hitting percentage) and also added nine assists.
Emily Toy handed out a team-best 14 helpers.
Madison Lydic set a career high with 10 blocks in the match, while
Abigail Eich contributed six blocks.
Sarah Dindak and
Allison Means each collected 10 digs.
The Presidents have three regular season PAC matches remaining, beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 27 when Saint Vincent visits the Henry Gym for a 7 p.m. tilt.
