BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team scored four goals in the second half to pull away from Bethany in a 4-0 nonconference victory.
The win evens W&J overall record at 7-7 this season, while dropping the Bison to 6-12.
Rachel Buyan scored the game-winner just 5:46 into play off a
Claire Shaak assist, which held up as the only goal of the first half.
W&J was able to get the offense to click in the second half, with
Allison Morrissey registering two goals, book-ending the scoring in the period on unassisted shots at 42:18 and 68:06.
Amanda Steffey, the reigning Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week, increased her goal-scoring streak to four games with a Buyan assisted tally at 55:28 and
Caroline Kallos added her first goal of the season at the 64:51-mark.
The defense was outstanding all evening as well, holding the Bison without a shot attempt. W&J held a 24-0 advantage in the category, with Steffey's nine leading the way and
Kelly Knisel adding seven.
Morgan Brozena earned her fifth shutout of the season despite not facing a shot.
W&J returns to Empire 8 action on Saturday, Oct. 24 when it travels to league-leader St. John Fisher for an 11 a.m. match-up.
