PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team opened up the 2015-16 season with a 95-63 loss at Carnegie Mellon.
Beka Bellhy led three Presidents in double figures with 16 points, while pulling down a team-best nine rebounds and handing out a pair of assists.
Amirah Moore posted 11 points and
Taley Dunaway added 10 after connecting on a pair of three-pointers.
Lisa Murphy, a preseason Third Team All-American topped 1,000 career points for the Tartans with 33 on the night, adding 11 rebounds and five helpers. Liza Otto and Jackie Hudepohl each tallied 14 points.
Ashley Mikelonis made her first career start for the Presidents, while
Alyssa Riley scored five points in her collegiate debut and
Danielle Parker registered a game-best five blocks also in her first career game.
Carnegie Mellon held a commanding 55-38 advantage on the boards and shot 54.1 percent to W&J's 26.9 percent.
The Presidents are back in action on Friday, Nov. 20 during the first day of the Hyatt Place Pittsburgh South Women's Basketball Tournament. W&J will host Pitt-Greensburg at 8 pm, following the opening game of Wittenberg versus Otterbein.
