PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Presidents were unable to hold onto the lead as they fell 72-61 at La Roche. The loss is only the second of the season, bringing a seven-game long win streak to a close and putting W&J's record at 7-2.
Washington & Jefferson opened scoring with a three pointer by
Danni Medovich. The first period continued to include the Presidents completing seven points in a row, finishing the period with an 18-10 lead over the Redhawks.Â
La Roche's offense began to come alive in the second period following a pair of layups at 8:34 and 8:24. The momentum continued, allowing the Redhawks to gain on the Presidents, with a score of 29-27 to end the period.
Despite
Beka Bellhy putting up six points in the third period, W&J was unable to retain its lead.Â
The fourth period opened with a ten-point gap, the Redhawks leading 50-40. The Redhawks held onto their advantage through the period, with the game ending in a loss for the Presidents at 72-61.
Beka Bellhy led W&J with a double-double, putting up a team-high 19 points while also pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Taylor Cortazzo had 16 points in the game while contributing five assists. Medovich had five helpers and posted nine points.Â
The Presidents are back in action on December 30 at 7:00 pm at Marietta.
