W&J roars back to knock off Mount Union 7-6

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Tim Angell scored with 1:51 remaining to cap Washington & Jefferson's 7-6 men's lacrosse come-from-behind victory over Mount Union Wednesday night at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents (5-1), who have already tied their season win total from a year ago, trailed 5-1 in the second quarter, but rallied to scored six of the match's final seven goals.  Zachary Fredericks netted three of the goals and assisted on Angell's game winner.

Four of W&J's wins have been one-goal victories. After the Purple Raiders built the four-goal advantage, W&J rallied with five unanswered goals.  Fredericks started the scoring spree 1:48 before halftime and his goal 20 seconds before the third period ended tied the game.

John Bursch put W&J in front for the first time at the 10:50 mark of the fourth quarter, but Mount Union forced a 6-6 tie with 5:02 left on Michael Taylor's third goal.

Nick Norris forced a key turnover and Fredericks helped turn it into a goal as he fed Angell for the game winner.  Mount Union had a 33-30 edge in shots, but Jacob Succop had 15 saves in goal to up his season total to 89.
