Luke Georgi broke a 6-6 tie with two minutes remaining and
Kyle Heinig followed with an insurance goal 34 seconds later as Washington & Jefferson opened Landmark Conference men's lacrosse play with an 8-6 victory over Drew Sunday. Â

Kevin Kustron, the Presidents improved to 6-1 overall and already eclipsed their season win total from last year (5-10). Â Sunday's win over Drew was the Presidents' first Landmark Conference victory since edging the Merchant Marine Academy on April 21, 2012. Â
Heinig scored two of the biggest goals of the game for W&J and finished with a game-high three goals. Â He tied the game with 2:07 left in the fourth quarter which was followed seven seconds later by Georgi's eventual game winner. Â Heinig's insurance tally capped a three-goal rally in a span of 41 seconds which changed the game's final outcome. Â
Jacob Succop continued to impress in goal for the Presidents after compiling 16 saves. Â
W&J led 2-1 at halftime, but Drew (0-3) scored five times in the first 23 minutes of the second half to notch a 6-5 lead with 8:24 remaining. Â Succop kept the Presidents alive with some key saves until Heinig and Georgi won the game on the offensive end. Â
Tim Angell scored twice for Washington & Jefferson, while
John Bursch and
Sidhartha Sharma also added goals. Â Drew outshot W&J 29-27, but W&J held a 9-8 advantage in faceoff wins, all nine of which were claimed by
Ryan Quan. Â Quan added a team-high nine ground balls. Â
