Four Presidents record multi-hit games in 15-6 win

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Four Presidents recorded multi-hit performances and the W&J offense erupted for eight runs in the top of the ninth inning in a 15-6 win over FDU-Florham.

With the win, the Washington & Jefferson baseball team improves to 5-2 on the season and guarantees a winning record in Florida at 4-1 with two to play. FDU-Florham drops to 1-6 this year.

The big blast of the eight-run ninth inning came off the bat of freshman Gannon Rooney who launched a grand slam to left field for his first career home run.

Rooney led all players with four RBI and four runs scored in going 2-for-5 with a walk. Nick Vento and Anthony Paladino each recorded three hits, with Vento driving in two runs and scoring two more. Nelson McKown also had two hits in the contest.

W&J had four extra-base hits on the day, including Rooney's homer, a triple by Kyle Smith and doubles by Vento and McKown. The Presidents swiped a total of nine bases on the day, led by Rooney's three and Vento's two.

Nick Kolat improved to 1-0 on the season in his second appearance, going the first 6.0 innings and scattering five hits and two runs with five strikeouts and a pair of walks. Tyler Dean worked 1.1 innings of relief and Tim Mulvey went the final 1.2 to earn his first career save, entering in a three-run game in the eighth inning. He struck out one and allowed one run on three hits.

The Presidents wrap up their Spring Break trip to Florida with a doubleheader against The College of New Jersey on Friday, March 20 beginning at 9 a.m. in Auburndale, Fla.
