MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Marietta with a 5-0 win before dropping a 5-4 decision in the nightcap.
With the split, the Presidents move to 7-5 on the season. The Pioneers advance to 6-10 this year.
Krista McCartney tossed a four-hit complete game in the opener to improve to 4-2, while
Emily Watson recorded three hits, including a pair of doubles, and two RBI to pace the offense in the opener.
In the second game, W&J plated three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4, but the hosts answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to earn the victory. Watson suffered the loss to drop to 3-3 on the year.
Abby Cunningham was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while
Jamie Smith delivered two hits and drove in two runs.
W&J opens Presidents' Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader at Westminster on Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m.
