Men's Lacrosse remains undefeated, rolls past Bethany 15-5

BETHANY, W.Va. -- Thanks to an eight-goal outburst in the second quarter, the Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 15-5 win at Bethany.

The win keeps the Presidents unblemished in the 2015 campaign and gives them a consecutive 3-0 start after also opening the 2014 season with three victories. The loss marks the first of the season for the Bison who fall to 3-1 after the non-conference loss.

W&J held a 3-2 lead after 15 minutes of play before erupting for eight goals in the second period as seven different players found the back of the net to hold an 11-3 advantage through one half.

Four-straight goals for W&J opened the second half as the Presidents stretched the margin to 15-3 before coasting to the 15-5 triumph.

For the game, the Presidents owned a two-shot edge, 32-30, thanks to an 11-6 advantage in the second quarter. W&J won 13-of-24 face-offs and picked up 58 ground balls, compared to 34 for the Bison.

Tim Angell led the way with a game-best five points, including a pair of goals and three assists. Kyle Heinig recorded a hat trick with three goals and a helper, while John Bursch and Luke Georgi each supplied two goals and an assist. Devon Curran and Zachary Fredericks each posted a pair of scores and Kyle MacKenzie and Bryan Whipkey each notched a goal and an assist.

Jacob Succop made nine saves in the victory, improving to 3-0 on the season, while playing all 60 minutes between the pipes.

W&J travels to Saint Vincent on Saturday, March 7 for a 1 p.m. battle with the Bearcats.
