Presidents walk-off game two, sweep Saints

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to score a 3-2 win and lock in the doubleheader sweep of first place Thomas More at Brooks Park.

After posting the 3-2 victory in the second game following a 4-0 win in the opener, the reigning league champion Presidents improve to 13-9 on the year and 6-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Thomas More, who was previously undefeated in the PAC, slips to 17-11 and 8-2 in the conference.

Rachel Marx drew a walk to begin the seventh inning and went to third when Sadie Marak reached on a throwing error by the pitcher on a sacrifice bunt attempt. After Marak stole second, Emily Watson was intentionally walked to load the bases with no outs. Jen Bahm delivered a sacrifice fly to center field on a 1-2 pitch to tie the game, which moved Marak to third allowing her to score on a wild pitch to end the game.

W&J had trailed 2-0 after Thomas More scored a pair of runs with two outs in the inning.  An RBI single up the middle by Chalese Wilson got the Presidents on the board in the bottom of the sixth to make it a one-run game.

Bahm and Abby Cunningham each recorded two hits in the nightcap.

Watson earned the win in relief, tossing the final 3.0 innings of two-hit ball to improve to 6-5 this season.

Krista McCartney tossed the complete-game shutout in the first contest, surrendering just three hits with three strikeouts and three walks. It was the fourth shutout of the season for the senior.

The Presidents plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning to open the twinbill. Marx and Marak both singled with one out and Marx scored when Watson reached on an error. A walk to Bahm loaded the bases and Morgan Figura delivered a two-run single to left field to put W&J ahead, 3-0.

Watson walked to lead off the third inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch before going to third on a double to right center by Bahm. A Meghan Staab RBI ground out provided the insurance run in the inning.

Seven different Presidents collected a hit in the opener, with Watson and Bahm recording doubles and FIgura driving in two runs.

W&J hosts Chatham at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 12 in a third-consecutive PAC doubleheader.
