WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson increased its winning streak to a season-long five games with a doubleheader sweep of Chatham, posting 8-1 and 9-1 victories.
Krista McCartney was able to get out of bases-loaded jam with no outs in the top of the first inning of game one with just one run allowed. The Presidents got the run back in the bottom of the frame and did not trail the rest of the afternoon. 
Leading 2-1 heading to the bottom of the third in game one, W&J used a four-run frame to build the advantage to 6-1. 
Emily Watson led off with a homer to left center. With two outs, four-straight Presidents reached base after 
Meghan Staab and 
Chalese Wilson walked and 
Breanna Gleason notched a two-run double. 
Abby Cunningham capped the scoring with a two-run single up the middle, 6-1.
The final two runs of the opener were added in the bottom of the fourth. 
Sadie Marak doubled to right and 
Jen Bahm reached on an infield single. 
Morgan Figura then delivered an RBI single through the left side that kicked away from the left fielder allowing both runners to score.
Cunningham and Watson both finished 3-for-4 in the game, with Cunningham delivering two RBI. Figura and Marak each posted 2-for-4 showings. McCartney went the distance, setting a new career high with nine strike outs while allowing just four hits and walking none. Her previous career mark for K's was eight on April 6 of last season against Saint Vincent.
W&J drew five walks and used seven hits for the 9-1, five-inning victory in the nightcap.
Emily Watson had two RBI doubles in the first two innings and the Presidents drew a pair of bases-loaded walks to build a 7-0 lead through two innings. 
Rachel Marx and 
Jen Bahm delivered RBI doubles in the fourth inning to push the margin to the eventual final of 9-1.
Watson was 2-for-3 with three RBI at the plate and went 4.0 innings, picking up the win, with four strike outs and six hits surrendered in the circle to lead W&J. Figura ended the game 2-for-2 and Marx (three) and Gleason (two) both scored multiple runs.
Washington & Jefferson improves to 15-9 on the season and 8-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with the victories. The Presidents will host Thiel on Saturday, April 18 in a 1 p.m. Senior Day doubleheader at Brooks Park.
