Morgan Figura collected four hits, including a 3-for-3 showing in the nightcap, as the Presidents dropped both games of a nonconference doubleheader at Muskingum, 7-3 and 9-1.
Washington & Jefferson softball drops to 18-12 on the year with the sweep at the hands of the Muskies, who improve to 22-16.
In the first game, W&J plated three runs with two outs in the top of the first inning, thanks to an RBI double by Figura and a two-run single by
Ally Doty, the freshman's first career hit. Muskingum answered back with three in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game, before adding a pair of runs in each of the second and fourth innings.
Seven Presidents recorded a hit in the opener, with
Jen Bahm, Figura and
Breanna Gleason registering doubles, and Doty tying for the game high with two RBI.
Krista McCartney took the loss to fall to 8-6 on the season, giving up 10 hits and seven runs (all earned) in 6.0 innings.
An infield single by Figura in the top of the fifth of the second game brought in the only run the Presidents would score in the contest, as part of her 3-for-3 showing.
Bethany Shepherd suffered the loss, working the distance (5.2 innings) and giving up 12 hits and nine runs (six earned) with four walks and a strike out.
W&J closes out Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Bethany on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m., in a pivotal doubleheader to determine postseason qualifiers.
