Angell ties W&J career goals record in loss at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Washington & Jefferson trailed 10-4 at halftime and was unable to recover in a 17-9 nonconference loss at John Carroll.

With the loss, the Presidents fall to 7-5 on the season after opening the campaign at 7-1. The Blue Streaks improve to 6-4 this year.

Despite score from Kyle Heinig and Tim Angell, the Presidents fell behind 4-2 after one quarter. The hosts then used a 6-2 edge in the second quarter, including the final five goals of the first half after W&J got within 5-4, to build the halftime lead.

The two teams traded scores in the third quarter, but W&J trailed 13-6 through 45 minutes before dropping the 17-9 decision.

Angell led the way for W&J with a hat trick, moving into a tie for first place with Joseph Eck on the career goals list at 131. Zachary Fredericks and Heinig each added two scores.

Jacob Succop made 16 saves in goal to move into third place on the single-season school record list with 169 in 2015, 31 shy of the record held by Ran Kirby in 2012.

W&J returns to Landmark Conference action at Susquehanna at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 11.
