WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Presidents confidently opened the season with an unassisted goal by
Molly Peddicord only 2:41 into the game that ended in a 3-3 tie against Ohio Wesleyan following double overtime.
The Battling Bishops responded to Peddicord's first goal of the season with two of their own. The first of these being made after a long pass reception at 38:55, while the second was off of the Presidents' crossbar at 42:38 to finish off the half ahead 2-1.
Tatiana Ruzzini was able to secure her first goal of the season by opening the second half with a chip inside the left post following a cross from Peddicord at the 49:05 mark.
The Presidents then took the lead when, less than five minutes later,
Jordan Toohey, assisted by
Mariah Lockard and
Josie Madden, struck the ball inside of the far post.
Only a 1:18 later, Ohio Wesleyan was able to tie the game at 3-3 following a knock to the lower left-hand corner of the goal.
They were able to hold onto this tie throughout two overtime periods, giving each team a 0-0-1 record to begin their seasons.
W&J was able to lead every period in shots with a total of 31-11. All three goal scorers also led the team in shots, with Toohey and Peddicord possessing eight each and Ruzzini with seven.
W&J's second game of the 2015 season will be on the road against Pitt-Greensburg on Sept. 6 at 4:00 p.m. at Latrobe High School, a change in venue from the UPG campus.
